How much should I budget for my flowers?

Whatever it is that occupies your thoughts the most (Music, decor, first dance, same day edit…etc) is probably what you should allocate most of your budget on.

Reality of flower prices

Did you know Australia doesn’t have enough flowers to provide for the whole wedding and events industry?

Thus 80% of flowers are imported from overseas to meet the demands of the industry! yes…80%

so those pinterest pictures of those beautiful big roses, orchids and even LEAVES..are most likely imported!

These flowers wer being shipped to Australia via commercial flights. and back then…there were plenty of commercial flights ad freight space.

Covid changed all that. Flights closed and very few planes were operating, meaning the freight space was up for grabs amongst the smallest and biggest companies in Australia…like Ebay, Amazon…and our humble flower growers.

The result was that freight space was given to the company that could pay the most. meaning soaring flower prices. OR, the flowers would come through charted flights…also meaning soaring prices.

Other factors such as floods, fires and inflation saw locally grown flowers also increase significantly!

But don’t be disheartened! There are cost saving ways we can work around at getting the best value for your money.

And nothing beats the grandeur of when you and your guests walk into a room, see beautiful decorations, pass it off as silk flowers then when you touch it you realise, omg they are real! and the decorations become that much more special!

Best bit is, you can take them home at the end of the night!

Want to save money?

Ask us about repurposing! We know that with the prices of flowers due to Covid it means some of our brides have had to forgo certain floral favourites due to budget.

A great way to get full use out of your flowers is to repurpose ceremony flowers to reception area!

Pew ends can decorate wishing well tables or be part of centrepieces..

Urn arrangements can decorate seating charts or be re recreated to go on the welcome sign.

Floral arbours can sometimes be made to decorate the cake table or go on a sweetheart table as a floral hedge, or behind the bridal table as a back drop etc.

Repurposing flowers do take time and a lot of effort! So we always check that there's enough time between ceremony and reception to do these.

After every event we take down and give away your flowers to you and your guests in little bouquet bundles or as arrangements, it’s an added give away for them.

What can my budget get me?

I usually get this question and it’s really hard to tell because budget also depends on themes and flower types, for example, an all foliage theme with a budget of $5000 can get you a lot more than a “no foliage theme” meaning just flowers, which is a lot more expensive.

This also depends on quantities so a bridal party of 10 people with more bouquets etc, is going to use up the budget more than with a bridal party of only 4 people.

Our recommendation

Invest more on your statement pieces in key areas such as the bridal/head table, entrances, bar table/ fire places.

go simple on other things such as guest tables,

you can ditch the smaller things such as pew ends, wishing well table flowers, petals etc.
